Whether you’re training for an event or just want race in the virtual world as well as the real world, cycling online is a great way to compete, train and have fun on your bike. eCycling/eRacing is one of the newest and most exciting forms of cycling. Held on online platforms like Zwift, BKool, Rouvy and RGT Cycling, riders from across the globe train and compete virtually. If you have a Smart Trainer or Power Meter you can ride all year round at whatever time of day suits you whether in a Crit Race, TT or for training and social rides.

Races are fast and furious, with additional tactics like the use of powerups and communicating via VOIP to keep racers on their toes. Bike selection is key, the ability to change bike and wheel selection with a few clicks can make the difference between winning or losing. Races categories are defined by power output measured in w/kg so anyone can race in a category to suit their ability, on any course or race series they want.

eRacing is constantly growing in popularity, with professional series becoming more prolific. Eight pro teams competed in this year’s Tour de Zwift, and the first UCI Cycling Esports World Championships took place on 9 December 2020. More recently the World Tactical League Racing (WTRL) Zwift Racing League (ZRL) has taken the Zwift world by storm with over 1700 teams competing weekly in professional and community leagues.

The ACU enters teams in multiple civilian race series, while holding its own Army Cycling eRace Series (ACeRS) on Zwift throughout the year. Structured workouts and group riding offers alternate options for those not wanting to race, and the ACU holds weekly meetups available for all personnel to attend.
